What is homophobia? Homophobia is the feeling of dislike against the lgbtqia+ community. Why does homophobia arise? It is nothing but the repercussion of not being educated enough towards the topic and the community. People cannot be blamed, but they sure can be corrected. How? The key to being anti homophobic lies in being acceptable. Homophobia isn’t uncommon in India, and i’ve learnt that it won’t be going away soon too. Members of the lgbtqia+ community are scared to come out to their families and friends just because they are afraid of not being accepted. Homophobia can be driven away by reading and learning about the lgbtqia+ community. It can be banished by interacting with various social groups and sharing your opinions and views with the rest of the world, all while being open to the fact that ‘love is love, no matter what.’ Keeping in touch with today’s time and age can be difficult for us, with the continuously changing trends and topics, but we must not fail to appreciate and acknowledge the fact that SO many people in the world are finally getting the freedom to be with whomever they wish. The people are continuously working towards creating laws and rules that make everyone feel comfortable, then why do YOU want to be a hurdle in the way with being homophobic?! I think it’s high time the Government of India legalizes Gay Marriage, the government should also be responsible for violence and abuse against people of the lgbtqia+ community. India is trying, in every way, to achieve modernization, legalizing rights and laws related to the lgbtqia+ community IS A HUGE STEP. Just because the legal aspects don’t fall in line doesn’t mean that you cant accept the community and help it grow. India is a growing country and we are the future, it in our hands to make India a safer place for everyone. Let’s make the world a better place for EVERYONE. It’s time you changed, cause the world already has.
